Our first outing today took us north to Har Bental, a mountain army lookout where one can view the entire Golan Heights. The old bunkers were interesting to climb in.
It becomes easier to understand how strategic this area is when you observe the 360-degree surroundings, with the ability to see Mt. Hermon (the tallest mountain in Israel), the Syrian and Lebanon border, and (on a clear day) the Galilee almost to the Mediterranean. We met a tour group there, lead by our friend Rabbi Rich Agler. Maya and Daniyel were instant hits with the members of the group! We followed the tour group to a chocolate factory nearby, where we participated in a "make your own chocolate delights" -- and how messy and delicious they were!
On the way home we stopped to see the huge wind turbines that dot the landscape, making use of the natural winds to generate much of the electricity in the Golan.
